Boston Acoustics-SPG555 VS ID Max

i don't think i can spend that much money for a pair of speaker, where can i get a good price on speaker?
Whats your budget? I got my elates from a guy in the forums BNIB for $625 shipped. I am surprised you dont like the Polk SR6500's. Those get real good reviews from what I have read.

i have a pair of Polk SR6500 comp and they sound good but the mid is not soft, i plan to replace with a pair of Morel Dotech Ovation 6 and put the Polk on rear.
Kevin, before spending more money and reconfiguring your gear once again, have you considered having the system professionally tuned? We've talked before. I don't think that you'll ever be happy with the sound until you get some direct, individual input from someone who understands audio.

FJ let me ask you something i bought the Polk SR from a friend and before when had them run active so when he sell them to me the 4 jumpers was missing so my installer jump speaker wires to make it work so my question is if you run them without jumpers will they sound the same? thanks.

^^ The polks are good sounding speakers, but if you dont like them then that how you feel about your comps.

just because they get great reviews that doesnt mean that you'll love them.

hella people jock companies like seas, dynaudio, scanspeak etc...., which others will say they make some of the best all around musicial gear, but i really dont like most of there speakers.

So what im saying fine a good Mid or comp set & have it tuned to your liking. T

To me tuning is subjective to each listeners ear.

okie i was at the store around here this morning and they carry Mc Intosh model MSS630 comp and they sound good in the store but i don't know they will sound good in the car, do you know anything about them?

As you can see in the pic, there are three jumpers - the one on the left controls the tweeter level and the other two (on the right) are used for bi-amping. Could you take a pic of your x-overs?

As you know, I don't use the supplied x-overs in lieu of an active setup. Did you read the review that I link'd a coupld of weeks ago?

they sound good but do they sound like $800 speakers? no sir.
It would be nice if one could take these speakers, as supplied by Polk, install them into some ready-made cutouts and get reference quality sound, but that won't happen. I described working with the SRs in the review that I link'd in your other thread. Unlike my system, I would not suggest an active setup, but I would encourage you to biamp and attenuate the tweeter level, ditch the rears, and have the system tuned by someone familiar with achieving quality sound. You want sound quality? These are the first steps. If I lived near you, I'd happily give you a hand. I bet your jaw would drop within a 1 hour time span. Good luck. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the 2 jumper on the right side was missing, on both crossover, my installer cross speakers wires to make it work, i wonder will they sound better with jumpers? maybe i have to call Polk company.

FJ i just bought a pair of McIntosh 6.9 for the rear , the store run out of business so they have big discount , the speakers cost $219 new i pay $100 they come with crossover and they sound perfect for rear fill, i wish i have money to but them Mac amps.

Hey Kevin Lu,

1)2009 es mids from cdt, which cdt audio gave me free, im really impressed with them

2)cdt passive xover, dont remember the model number, I think sucks ***

3)Phase technology Large format Tweeters, They invented the soft dome tweeter.I love these tweeters but im about swith over to these

http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=45_229_250&products_id=8539

4)Eclipse amp 4244 or something like that, it a good fullrange solid amp

5)JL audio 500/1-I love the slash Eq on this amp

6)JL 12w6v2-some will say it the best SQ sub on the market, But i really dont like this

I bought a Scion tc, trying to keep this system basic,I was trying to keep this car light for perfomance

But I'm will going active very soon

... why everybody go active? do they sound better?
An active system has the potential to sound better. Unless one knows what he's doing and why he's doing it, a passive setup will likely have the (sonic) advantage. As I mentioned a few times, your SR crossover doesn't offer enough of a tweeter adjustment. To lower the volume of your tweeters, you need to biamp the crossovers with the ARC amp you already have. Then, you'll be able to use your EQ to effectively zero-in on your preferred tonal balance. There's no way around this.
