Boston Acoustics Dust cap differences

I can't figure this out. Why did some of the G series Boston subwoofers have a gray dust cap while others had a black one? I tried to figure out if it was a generational change or if the difference was rather it was a d4 or s4 but can't figure it out. Past reviews for both versions don't hint at any clues as to when the change was made.

Aesthetics and depends on production dates. The black dust caps seem to be on the newer made stuff.
