Exercise.

The human body is a reactive device. It will adapt to the environment and experiences. If you want a fast metabolism, you need to force your body to create it. This both includes exercise and eating more throughout the day(i.e. not skipping breakfast).

The airport baggage handler is a good example of conditioning. After you've done something for a period of time, your body adapts and gets used to it. After this happens, there is no additional benefit to that action. It becomes very easy for your body to do a repetitive action. During summers between school, I throw ice cream(literally), thousands upon thousands of gallons a day. It is essentially an aerobic activity, but also extremely strenuous to anyone who's not done it on a normal basis. People starting out for the first time will generally lose a good 20 lbs sweating their *** off. At the same time they heavily build their hand, forearm, and back strength. The funny part is once you get used to this action, despite being hard work, there is very little further benefit to the action. I've done the job summers throughout my entire school career. I no longer lose weight doing the work. I can do the work dead sick(read, pretty much fainting if I climb a couple flights of stairs). The body is so conditioned to the particular sets of actions that the efficiency is very high, enough so where very little effort is actually taken for the conditioned person.

The idea to conditioning is why we always need to mix up our routines and increase weight loads when lifting weights or doing aerobic exercises. At some point, not doing so, we gain no additional benefit, and we can even degrade in other areas. You could essentially run 10 miles a day and gain weight //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif depending on the level of conditioning and what else you do and how much you eat besides that action.
