Blown sub pre-out?

Background:

Headunit: Alpine 9835

Amp: US Amps USA-600x

Deck Crossover settings on the subout: 80Hz 0dB 24dB rolloff

Sub: Image Dynamics IDQ12D2 wired in series (4 ohms)

I tried to set my gain using a DMM and since then my sub has been sounding like junk.

It is no longer loud and is barely audible when the bass isn't punchy and even then it isn't as loud as it used to be.

If I am listening to something like a blues band the bass guitar part is almost non existant through the sub unless you are standing at the back of the car with the trunk open. Then you can hear the bass guitar part playing through the sub.

So I think I screwed up and partially fried the pre-out... (my best guess to-date anyways).

Today I made sure the volume was at 0 and set the front crossover to FLAT and connected the Front RCAs to my sub amp.

powered up the stereo and my bass was audible again and vibrating my trunk like crazy.

I also tried connecting my ipod to my sub amp (made sure the amp's crossover was set) and the sub was playing fairly decent with this method too.

My deck isn't a year old yet... I bought it new at a local shop in October (I believe).

Should I just contact the shop I bought it at and get them to send it back to alpine for repair?

Any help would be greatly apperciated!!

Have you checked the remote-turn-on wire? I had a similar problem once before and the turn-on wire wasn't getting enough current since it was also being used to power a bypass for my dvd screen. You can put a 9v battery to the turn-on and see what happens.

If not, re-check your connections for good measure (which I'm sure you've done already). In my experiences problems like this are usually related due to a loose connection somewhere.

Flip the RCA's on both sides, to test the RCA cable.

if the problem follows the cable, then its the cable

if the problem stays with the sub out, then it is the deck.

remote turn on is fine, because he had the amp playin
