The SD-1 is not a bottomless design, but it does take over 50% more than the linear x-max to bottom the coil out. With the rated 200 watts RMS it's almost impossible over 30 Hz, though. I can only imagine how terrible the smacking sounds of bottoming sounded while it was dying.
I replaced em' anyway (he blew three, this was the only one cut down so far)... since he is a good customer of a local dealer and plans to use the replacements for midbass speakers -- yes, you read that correctly.
