Blown Pre-Out????

Recently fitted a head deck into my sisters boyfriends car, all seemed to go ok till i turned it on and there was a high pitch noise coming from the front and rear speaker (which run through an amp), took the car to the place the head deck was purchesed from and they said it had a blown pre out for the amp, is it possible to blow the pre out somehow during instalation??? any help would be muchly appreciated thanks

i dont see any way to damage that durring install. what head unit was it?

it is a pioneer double din dvd player, the only other thing about this head deck which i didnt mention before is that it was a demo unit as it ws the last one they had, although they didnt say that when he bought it, just that there was only one left, im a bit suspicious that it was faulty from the word go

Likely not your install that caused this one.. Only way I can see this happening is by leaving battery connected and possibly touching the RCA's to a live wire by accident..

I would do 1 of 2 things, if the shop is authorized, contact the HU manufacturer. Second thing, get the shop you bought it from to replace it, explain to them the situation.

yeah well there was no live wires exposed, all wiring bar pluging in the rca's was done with battery disconnected, all the solder connections were heat shrinked and then covered with electrical tape so there wasnt a possibility of any shorting out in the future. the place that it was purchased from dont know how it happens and believe it was possibly the installers fault with i think is a crock of shit, and thanks for the feedback guys really appreciate it
