blown orion 12 h2

my buddy has an orion 12" h2 powered by a hifonics bx1500d. so today he told me he was listening to a cd at a reasonably loud volume and the sub cut out and smoke came pouring out the port. it will no longer power on or do anything. i know its screwed, but does anyone know what is damaged by just what i said? seemed like it blown rather easy with only 1500 watts (well probably like 1200) going to it. anyone know the warranty on these subs and where/how much to recone it? thanks.

They dont recone those. If its under warranty, they'll just replace it. H2s are enclosure sensitive no matter how much power you put to them.
