Hey guys whats up. I've been around the forum for a while just never registered till i needed some help. Well the time is now. Ive got a Kicker KX 1200.1 and im running 2 12 dual 4ohm L7's to them. Had the gain a little over a fourth of the way. I was driving early in the day and drove to my friends house and had the music low. I went in for about an hour and when i go to leave the subs worked fine till i got to the corner. They cut out so i go to see what happened. I get home with the radio still off and pop the trunk SMOKE comes out! Well the amp was hot and something smelled burnt. I call Kicker and they told me that it might have been because i was running 4 gauge and the Air conditioner was on and therefore not enought power was getting to the amp. Polecat do you have any idea as to why the amp didnt go into protect mode before it fried? Well im going to have it sent out and into kicker monday morning and ive got the RMA number but i just wanted to know if anyone thinks they know why it happened. I'd appreciate any comments left.

Do you know what the voltage was to the amplifer? Was it able to get some air? Are you double sure it's a 1 ohm load....really hard to say what happended....but if you got an RMA, it'll get fixed and they do a 24 hour turn around on amp repairs....sorry man...

Do you think i REALLY need to upgrade to a 0 gauge wire? i really dont see why i had this problem. Could it be because it was hot outside also? Voltage was around 13 volts or so on my gauges. And yes they are dual 4 ohm going into a 1 ohm load. So when they recieve it it should be only about 24 hours to fix? thanks alot polecat.

i think 24 hour turn around means they tell u if its covered under warranty or not.

24 hour is fixed and back out the door....we'll fix it and see, 13v is good....but upgrading would help...

headed out for the weekend.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Are you sure you didn't smoke a sub voice coil or two, instead of blowing the amp? I've seen a lot of smoke come from ports after subs were blown.

Even if you smoked a voice coil, the KX1200.1 still should've gone into protect if it saw a short.

I run my KX1200.1 @ 0.85 dcr for comps, and it runs just fine.

I think you are seriously starving your KX1200.1 using only 4 gauge.
