for some reason my sub sounded better in a prebab sealed than in a prefab ported. i have a prefab ported and i wish i never had it and now i gotta save some money to get a custom build.

BLOCK THE PORT!!!! easy fix untill then bro. take a shit load of towels and shove it in there to make it a sealed enclosure. i dont recommend it but you can do it for some time untill you can get a custom box. lmk when u need a design //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Well thats because sealed boxes are very forgiving. It's pretty hard to make a sealed box SO far off spec that it sounds horrible. With a ported box though... if you don't have enough port area, you'll hear port noise or air turbulence. Or it could not have enough internal volume for your specific sub. OR it could have a horrible tuning frequency for your listening/music tastes. It's a lot easier to screw up a ported box than it is a sealed.

Definitely look up the specs for your subs, find out how much volume they need, and build a box to fit your subs and music tastes. The correct box makes a HUGE difference. I recently got rid of my pre-fab sealed box and built my own ported box. I'm only running 2 10" kicker comps and with the new box built at 3.1 cubic feet and ported to 34Hz, I get a bit of roof flex in my sedan lol.

One more point before I end my rant. It's also a lot easier to **** up your subs in a pre-fab ported enclosure. A lot of the time, those pre-fabs are not tuned nearly as low as most people when they build the box themselves, and playing the subs, especially at full blast, below the tuning frequency will wreck them because once you go below the port's tuning frequency, it's close to running the subs free-air because you lose most of the dampening.
