Blaupunkt GTA 280 sufficient?

Hi all! Looking for some advice. I am pretty new to this. I received 2 Blaupunkt GTW 1000 10" subs. They are single voice coil 4-OHM. Ratings are 200 W RMS and 800 W peak. The amp I received is an Blaupunkt GTA 280. It's a 2 channel amp that is not 2 ohm stable bridged. Ratings on the amp are 2 X 75 W at 4 OHM (RMS) and Max power is 2 X 160 W at 4 OHM. It seems to me this is not enough power?

Anyway, I bought all of this (brand new - old stock though) for $150. Everything was sealed and wrapped in plastic. Owner just never got around to installing. Did I make a bad choice? I also purchased a 4 gauge amp install kit (Knuconceptz.)

Also, I still need a dual sub box ( going into a Hyundai accent sedan trunk.). I listen to mostly rock/metal. Recommend ported or sealed?

Sorry for all the questions, I just don't want to mess up.....

Thanks guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I wouldn't say you made a bad choice. You can sell those subs on eBay for $75 a piece it looks like right now... so, the only thing is the amp is quite underpowered for the subs... I would check into another amp though...

Thanks Frenchy. Would it be possible to get a decent amp for around $75-$100? Funds are tight and I still need to either make or purchase a dual sub box. Recommendation for an amp? Too bad the Blaupunkt amp won't bridge to 2 ohms.

Boss is very close to the bottom of the barrel. Their power ratings are bad jokes in most cases. There's a good bench test of one posted somewhere -- I found it -- Mobile Edge Tests The Real World Output of 2 Amplifiers

to summarize -- rated at 500w rms at 4 ohms, 2000w peak at 2 ohms.

At 2 ohms the amp produced 315w rms.

This is typical of a boss amp.

Then you have the issue of reliability - which isn't any better than their power misrepresentations.

Thank you for the link to the article. I am not going anywhere near those Boss amps. I am looking at either an Alpine or Kenwood at around the $100 range. They are capable of 500W Rms at 2 Ohm. Do you think I will be okay with one of those?

Alpine are decent amps. Have a look in the classified's on this site. You should find something.

I have a soundstream PX1.2000D I might sell but it's out of your price range.
