There is no difference between 720 and 1080p when you are say, 12 ft away. It's when you get closer and closer when you are able to tell the difference. I have a 50" Samsung 720p plasma in my bedroom and I love it. I've had it for 3 years now and have had no problems at all with it. So it pretty much depends on how far out your viewing area is. Now, in my living room, I have a Samsung 1080p LCD 120 hz flatscreen, but we also sit about six ft away from it. Just something to think about. 720p = big room/ large viewing distance
1080p= close up
But honestly, if I had my choice, I would always go with 1080p.
Your right on the 70" being ideal. The bigger the room is, the bigger size TV you will need for optimal viewing. I will say this, I was stuck between gettin the 46" and the 55", but due to budget constraits I chose the 46". I now wish I would have waited and saved up to get the 55", but, my 46" 1080p 120hz looks brilliant on blueray. It also has a lot to do with picture settings on the tv and settings on the blueray player. If your settings on the blueray player are jacked then I'm sure 1080p on a tv under 50" will look like garbage. I believe if you have a 120hz 1080p tv, then the optimal settings on the blueray player should be 1080i with a 24hz pulldown. Whatever it is, mine is set up right. It's been over a year since I've been hard core into HT so correct me if I'm wrong.To get the full resolution benefits of blu ray you really need a projector, or a flat panel above 60" at a viewing distance of 8' away... a 70" flatscreen would be ideal, and you would notice things you never saw before.. Actually Ive read that anything under 50" 1080p is useless
Yea I get 3:2 Pulldown 24 hz rate.. ps3 is setup for it running LPCM audio.. Before and after I got my set I was trolling around AVS forums, and getting a base calibration for the color pallete, white balance , flesh tones etc... and after tweaking here and there over a couple weeks its perfect... I wished I would have got a bigger set , but back then the popular sizes were 46" and 52... Now they are jumping up in sizes were the norm is 55" , 60" and 65"Your right on the 70" being ideal. parts expressAnyone know where deals are on speaker wire?
5.1 is all any one needs.. 7.1 is nice but unless you have a square dedicated room... not worth it..you guys must have gigantic living rooms to fit 70'' screens and have the speakers set up correctly. I'm guessing running 5.1/7.1 is more forgiving with speaker placement. I run stereo.
Yeah, I LIVED on AVS forums for quite some time. It seems like I buy a new TV every year at this exact time (holiday bonus check). I would buy a TV to replace the one in the living room, then move the old one to a different room. They say you need to get your TV professionally calibrated because every tv(even though the same model) is different. I say bullshit. Every time I got a new tv, someone had their settings on the forum that had theirs calibrated, and the settings were perfect. You just have to find the right set from the right guys that know what they're doing. This year my obsession is car audio, so the final pieces will be bought by early next week.Yea I get 3:2 Pulldown 24 hz rate.. ps3 is setup for it running LPCM audio.. Ill wait another year or 2 before I make the jumpto a new set, since the PQ is still awesome on this one .. Hopefully by then a good hi end 65-70" will be under $2500.. Because when you have a screen that big, cheapy Image processors are gonna make it look like crap , so might as well just save up for the good stuff
Just looking at Best buy last week and they had a 70" Sharp Aquos on the wall , and I was like , Man that thing is HUGE compared to mine, ( thinking the set next to it was a 52" like mine ) nope it was a 58" Sammy plasma... So yea, my TV is tiny compared to all the new stuff
