Next month is a competition here locally. I would like to enter my vehicle, I have 1 12" Fi Q off a DPX11551 (1600rms) in a 2.5cuft @ 32hz. My friend has a 12" L7 off 1600 rms but in a 4cuft box @ 48 hz. His is much louder than mine I think but it sounds like shit and is almost unbearable. I'm wondering if making a larger box tuned higher would give me a better chance at this competition. Should I make a new box or leave it at what im at now?

tuning higher will help you, but no reason to make the box any bigger. what vehicle does he have
He has a 91 Dodge Stealth. Making the box bigger wouldn't make a difference huh?

so isnt his car a hatchback? thats one reason its louder, and no 2.5cf is the max you should use for a 12. especially if you have 1600w on it. you would probly gain more if you did 2cf at like 45hz. you might gain a little going to a Fi BL and probly wont even sound much different in the SQ

Yes his car is a hatch back.

That's what I was honestly considering, selling my current Q and getting a 12" BL fully loaded. So 2cuft @ 45hz would suffice? I really like the power I get with my lows though, White Girl by Jeezy is phenomenal in my truck.

I don't care for SQ as much as SPL though.

well if thats just a comp box then like upper 40s would be good, but for sql i would do upper 30s, how long has he had his L7 in 4cf? probly why it sounds like sh*t and probly wont laste much longer

He's had his L7 in that box since he bought it. He has actually won quite a few competitions here and in Sacramento. I would like to make a competition box just to see how it does. lol

x3 on either snagging a bl fully loaded or make n a smaller box to 2^3 at 45hz. just use that box for lil comps and such then put the box you have now back in. its as simple as that
