This is the difference between someone intelligent who believes in God and someone intelligent who doesn't. The one who believes, gives up the notion that what he sees as logical is necessarily even real, and submits to the idea that only God truly knows.Yes. There is a difference. I stay on the "general faith" side of the line...because that (imo) is my logical endpoint. The other side of that line requires a "leap" of faith I cannot muster. I find that side of the line very conflicting.
Very good job of articulating that.. +1 rep for you.
I don't quite see it that way. IMO, you made an investment in society, hoping to make society a better place.Selfishness is doing something for your own gain. I didn't have anything to gain from helping him out.
It isn't, if you go by what it technically means, as, like you said, wanting to benefit others, and then doing it, is selfish, as you are pleasing your self. More paradox //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gifI define that as selfish. You wanted to help someone out? Why?
Perhaps you believe that you action benefits society....
Perhaps my definition of selfishness is different. I do not believe it to be an inherently bad thing.
Like I said in a preceeding post. Doing the right thing is an investment in society. In return, you would like to society thrive, prosper, and grow. One typically hopes that by doing the right thing, the world is a better place....a return on your investment. It isn't, if you go by what it technically means, as, like you said, wanting to benefit others, and then doing it, is selfish, as you are pleasing your self. I meant religion not God.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I have seperated religion from God a long time ago, as in 'I dont consider my self christian anymore, but do believe in God'I believe 100% that you can be moral without the belief of a God. However, I don't see it very often, leads me to believe it's often not that case
.
It seems that you think that everything is in some way selfish. I can entertain that, but then you have to draw the line to what is, and is not, intentionally selfish. there is the discrepancy.Like I said in a preceeding post. Doing the right thing is an investment in society. In return, you would like to society thrive, prosper, and grow. One typically hopes that by doing the right thing, the world is a better place....a return on your investment.
we do the things we do because some of us are more stable then others, period. None of us are the same, we will all act differently to different situations. You keep talking about selfishness, why? When i help someone, it is because i expect the same to happen to me in the future, but it never happens.Like I said in a preceeding post. Doing the right thing is an investment in society. Hmm...I see what you're saying, but selfishness is based on intentions, not outcome.Like I said in a preceeding post. Doing the right thing is an investment in society. In return, you would like to society thrive, prosper, and grow. One typically hopes that by doing the right thing, the world is a better place....a return on your investment.
Well in that case, no problem with it whatsoever in my eyes. You are supposed to believe in God, not church, not the pope, God. These other things have really for the most part just become vehicles for corruption to manifest itself.I meant religion not God.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I have seperated religion from God a long time ago, as in 'I dont consider my self christian anymore, but do believe in God'
Again, intentions.we do the things we do because some of us are more stable then others, period. None of us are the same, we will all act differently to different situations. excuse me for possible ignorance please
That is the reason why.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gifWell in that case, no problem with it whatsoever in my eyes.
