Big time help...

Hello everyone, first post here... ahh where to begin... I recently bought a deck and 2 speaker pairs. I only spent $380 Canadien ( thats with taxes, warrenty and wiring harness...) so i figured the install costs were over half what i paid for the stuff so i decided to do it myself. Annnnyway, the equipment is as follows...

deck - Panasonic Cq-c1110U 45x4 w max

4inch speakers - rockford fosgate frc4204 - 60w max

6 inch speakers - JVC cs-XV620 150w - max

Ok, so i got the deck in for the most part fine, but when i hook the speakers up they sound like they lack power, I can turn them fairly close to top and they have almost no bass, they sound kind of echoy... I am not sure if the connections are bad. Also, if the deck only puts out 180w and the stereo has max of 420 do i need an amp, and if so would the amp make the speakers sound better? I was also wondering how that worked, say the deck puts out 180 and if i bought a amp that had 250 and ran 4 speakers off that amp would the amp have 430? ( the 250 on its onw and the 180 from the deck?) I am doing this in a older car, 1990 colt... If anyone could gimmie any help i would really be greatful, and if i have not supplied enuf info feel free to reply and ill give all the info I can... thanks

Your deck only puts out prolly 20wrms per channel, not 45. Remember always look at rms rating not max. An amp would make the speakers sound better, but make sure you have rca outs if you are going to use an amp, if not you will need an lineout convertor. And no you won't have 430 if an amp puts out 250. You will have 250. As for sounding bad, do you have them hooked up right? do they have some sort of filter taking out the bass?

ahh it would be easier to explain if i wasnt so clueless eh. Ok this is how i have it wired, its pretty obvious i mean the harness has 4 wires for front 4 for back i got them all propper connections, positive to pos neg to neg, um... I dont really see how I could be doing the wiriing wrong. Ok here a Q. If you had a 45x max 4 channel deck and u had 2 front speakers of 60max 30 rms and 2 rear 150 maxes, how would u do it to get the best sound out of those speakers, with only slots for 1 amp?

ok, according to this;

http://www.cardomain.com/item/PANCQC1110U

its worth $100 with all the hardware to mount it. its got TWO preamp outputs (rca -> amp connectors) so you got some options. if you want to amplifiy FOUR SPEAKERS + SUBWOOFERS, you will use ONE SET of STEREO RCA CORDS to a DEDICATED SUBWOOFER AMPLIFIER, and the other set, you will attach a SECOND RCA CORD and run both sets to your trunk. on ONE of these sets that you are going to be using for your DEDICATED FOUR CHANNEL AMPLIFIER FOR YOUR SPEAKERS, you will get a RCA Y ADAPTOR, or RCA SPLITTER.

there should be TWO RCA INPUTS on the fourchannel amp, FRONT and REAR. since you will be taking the signal from one OUTPUT onthe CD PLAYER, just plug in the TWO SETS OF RCAS FROM THE Y CORD into front\rear, and hook the Y CORD into one of the RCA OUTPUTS you ran from your CDPLAYER to your trunk.

not hard at all. you should really look into this amp thing a bit more. you will be dealing with some dangerous electricity, and if you dont know what your doing you could get hurt.

oooook, so! i got my pooh deck, now i have a y rca cord to a 4 channel amp that has at least 400W to cover my speakers, and another amp that is dedicated to my subwoofer. does that sound about right? also i really DONT have a subwoofer, could that be why the speakers sound like they have no bass? that really donset make sense though. thanks for the help req

Before adding an amp or going nuts check out a couple basic things. Those speakers are a perfect match for a typical HU. They should get pretty loud and sound nice.

Your deck has bass and trebble controls and also an "SQ" button that selects preset equalization curves. See if that makes any difference.

You didn't say anything about installation of the speakers. Do they mount solidly in the doors? Are the doors sealed? If you hang speakers with the backs open they'll sound like shit. How do they compare to the car's stock speakers?

this sounds important... ok well the car has slots in the metal... It had 4inch pair under dash. basically just screw them in in place of old ones, they solid in there. now the back above the rear glass has slots for pair of 6 inchers so i just gonna cut holes in fabric cover and screw them to that and fasten them to the metal, will that not work propperly? how do they need to be covered? when i pulled old 4s out of front they had no cover on the magnet... i got the new fronts working finally and they sound a lot better than the stocks, stock were 20w max...

Dash speakers tend to have little bass to begin with because the sound from the back side of the speaker can cancel what's comming out the front. Small speakers like 4's or 3-1/2's are the worst. If it's possible, put some kind of padding behind them to block the "back wave" - it can make a difference. BTW there are much better 4" coaxials than those Rockford's.

The rear speakers should fit the openings perfectly with no gaps around them and no way for sound from the back side to come into the cabin. It's always the bass that suffers when there's leaks.
