Big Three???

I'm a noob to sound system, I'm just starting to build my very first one, consisting of a JL 10W7 and a JL 500/1 amp. I was thinking of adding a cap to the setup so my lights won't keep dimming, but I did a search and saw a lot of negative things being said about them, and to do the "big three" instead. And also that JL amps had regulated power suppy.

So what exactly is the "big three" ?
