Big Magnets and Computers/Laptops

Okay, so before I get too far down this road, let's say I build a subwoofer box with two massive 12" woofers with huge magnets (think IDMAX 12").

Now suppose on a trip I put my laptop in my backpack next to the subwoofer enclosure in the trunk and take an 8 hour drive or something.

Is my laptop going to still work and the hard drive contain all the appropriate data when I get there? Honestly the last time I built a car audio system a laptop wasn't even on my radar!

ummm... why not put the laptop in the FRONT of the car? :S

I wouldn't do it. Most woofer magnets are NOT shielded.

Carry it in the front.

Agreed. The strength of those magnets has to be huge, enough to possibly cause harm.

i would seriously advise against it.

if a fridge magnet can **** up a desktop PC... then a moofer would **** up a laptop good.

i used to work at circuit city, and this old lady kept calling customer service complaining how her computer kept breaking, and they kept replacing it for her. finally on the 4th time, they went to her house and hooked up the PC. it worked and when the guy was cleaning up, the lady was setting up her computer desk and slapped a big fat "i love grandma" magnet\picture frame on the side of the case.

no wonder it kept ****ing breaking.

so yea. id think the magnetic field of a moofer would scramble the shit out of a laptop harddrive.

yeah, just putting my box next to my TV makes it change colors. I would guess they are strong enough to damage a laptop

I very highly doubt that would do anything...
