big electrical problem

well, I've been using the search button a lil bit and can't seem to find a right explanation...

I just got my 15" tc9 installed a couple days ago, and it compliments my hifonics bx1500d very well...

the thing i've noticed lately (which i figured would happen) was that my headlights almost turn off, whenever the bass hits. I thought that if I didn't play it as much it woudn't do it as much but that wasn't the case

as of now ive stopped all playing of my system for a few reasons:

1. Headlights go completly off when HU and system is turned on

2. Heater will not turn on when system is on

3. Windows now do not roll up or down even if the system is off

4. turn signal lights only stay on and do not flicker (maybe not electircal)

my question to you guys is, if i keep playing my system, will this get worse, stay the same, ect.. and if it will get worse, what would be the cheapest way possible to help this, I know all about the batteries, big 3, and all, i just need to know what might be the most effective, even if it is a new ALT

PS. my car is a 1983 caddilac deville

thanks in advance guys!

If you keep playing it like this, you'll likely damage your equipment from undervoltage situations eventually.

You've mentioned the big 3 which would be a good place to start. Also, I'd consider a HO alternator first if your dimming is as bad as you say it is. When your car is runnning this is the major source of your electrical output. A different battery is not going to help that much under driving conditions.

It sounds to me like your alt is fried. When was the last time it was replaced? Easy way to find out is go to Autozone (or some kind of car store) and let them test your alt, it may not be bad, but just not putting out enough amps to run everything you have. I would suggest doing the Big 3. I can't really say anything about putting in a battery right now or not, as I know little of that myself. Good luck with your problem, I'm having a similar problem myself (not as bad).

You need to upgrade your elect system. I have a 2006 chevy 2500hd 8.1 lt big block with dual batteries and a hd alt stock. Im running 3 amps that equal around 1000 real watts and I get slight dimming. I think my alt puts out 200+ amps. I cant believe I hear guys running 3000 watts through their civic 4 banger with a 90 amp alt. I ****ed up 2 alpine mrv 1000 and 1 boston pro sub from an underpowered elec system years back. You should do an elec system upgrade before you even try to use 1000 +watts in a vehicle.

kk, ill go there tomorrow, i guess im gonna have to drop another 500$ //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Hmmm... doubt it unless you go with a 160 amp alt and a battery, doubt thats what your gonna have to do though. Just so you know, stock alts are cheap, like 100-150.
