So I am just starting to get into riding. I am not serious about it but I like to go for rides, and i like road riding (going fast on mostly flat surfaces) I am looking for a better bike on craiglists, the bikes i have are either mountain or just not very smooth old road bikes.

I have come across some interesting craigslist adds. Some seem like very good deals, tell me what you think. I am 5' 8 btw and weigh about 135.

I have a Trek 800 which is called a hybrid I think but it is more like a mountain bike, I just got some nice smooth road tires for it because I don't really ride trails.. smooth as butter

Go to your local bike shop and get fitted for a bike there. Then look around see what matches your size and price range. Thats your best bet

No, mine looks more like a mountain bike than a road bike, but it really is a Hybrid built for shorter rides in neighborhoods, paved trails and the like. It has more of an upright position -- a less "aggressive" posture.

The photo that you posted is Trek's entry level roadbike. They are certainly made better than your toy store bike, but it is entry level.

I think it said it was an 89, but looks well maintained.

The entry level's will be heavier and the components will not but as good as the higher models, but fine for beigining.

Best advice I've seen thus far. Try ebay as well, and maybe find you a nice older Schwinn. They make some perfect around-town type bikes. Maybe an old collegiate or the like. You could also try for an old Peugeot, but good luck finding parts...
