Best way to go active?

I have the pioneer components in my sig and i've heard they are better to be used active. Since i don't have a hu capable of active i have 2 options that i see. I could either buy a 4 channel amp such as the kicker sx700.4 which has a crossover allowing to go active or i could buy a regular 4 channel amp along with a separate crossover. Which would be the easiest or the cheapest way? Would it even be worth it or would i better off sticking with what i have and getting a active head unit sometime in the future?

cheapest would be a 4ch. amp and a coustic xm6. Or u could save for a HU that is capable of active xover, that's wat i'd do

If you don't want to get a new HU, the Coustic XM6, the Profile RX30R, or the Memphis 16-XO3 would all be fairly decent choices for a starter active XO.

What's your overall budget for a new amp and/or crossover? Depending on where you shop, the SX700.4 would probably run you in the neighborhood of $400-550. That could be enough to get an 880PRS HU and a nice 4 channel amp. Unless you were wanting to stick with matching SX amps.

I spent around $475??? total for my 880PRS. Maybe I got ripped? I know there are several sellers on ebay selling 880's in the mid $300 range. But you have no warranty. I thought I would spend a little more for the warranty. Good thing too. The 880 is a touchy little devil who doesn't like to have anything messed with that isn't supposed to be messed with. Example....I had a speaker wire get pinched. Zapped the pico fuse and all hell broke out with the loud *** alt whine. Took it back to my shop where I bought it. I told them exactly what happened and they swapped it out no questions asked. He said he would rather have me tell him the truth about what happened rather than try and smoke him with a story he knew better of. Anyway....I'm more than happy with the 880 and **** glad I spent the bucks for the unit I got. To get an 880 AND a 4 channel amp for $400 - $500 would be a steal.

No, of course not. For the reasons you stated: warranty and service. That alone is worth the extra couple hundred to some people. I'm just trying to venture into all possible routes that would meet the OP's needs.
