I am looking at selling two rather expensive pieces of equipment.

But I doubt there will be anyone buying locally. So, naturally I am forced to sell them online. Looks like the prices are going to be around $1500 & $600. So, I am curious of the best way to receive payment so I don't get screwed.

If for example someone pays me with paypal, I send the equipment, can they take their money back out of paypal? Or once the payment is sent and cleared into my account is that for sure?

What about a money order? Is there a way to be screwed with or is that concrete?

I am pretty sure of the answer with each of these things. However, I just want to double check, $2100 is a lot of money.

Thanks,

Aaron

Personally if I was selling something that expensive I would require they get a postal money order and cash it at the bank BEFORE shipping anything.

There are things you can do to safeguard yourself but honestly if you just go with a MO from the post office you won't have to worry about jumping through hoops if something does happen.

cashier check?
I was thinking that payment can be stopped on a cashiers check... Maybe I am wrong?

And if someone pays and then screws you with a postal money order, I think that is a federal offense.
I am leaning towards money order the most. However, I just wandered about PP because a lot of guys on Audiogon use it, and that is where I was looking to sell my equipment at.

Ya your prob. right,

There are some escrow services out there, they collect the money and then release it to you once the item has been received at the buyer.

Postal MO might be the best and most easy way. But all the MO's can be faked.

Paypal can be risky because they have access to just pull the money out of your paypal account and/or possibly screw with your personal bank account.

Money order, Western Union, or Cashiers Check are on the safer side. Allow time for your check to clear and then feel free to send away. Its not like paypal where they can simply steal the money back...They must actually file claim and take you to court.

Even a personal check will work if you can verify the delivery address with the check and give it time to clear.

Not selling it on Eghay mostly because the things I am selling go for almost half on eghay vs Audiogon.
lol
