A driver that isn't designed with accuracy in mind, optimally enclosed will still sound of poo, just as a great driver in the wrong box will. Start with garbage and you'll never get any better.

Yep. SQ and SPL. That's it. You're either on the ends of the spectrum or somewhere in the middle...

Which, if you think about it, really must have been thought of by someone who spends next to no time in SQ.

Because a proper SQ system has to be able to handle some incredible dynamics, there's a reason why IASCA includes a graduated dynamics test on their CDs...if you're trying to reproduce the London Symphony Orchestra at full volume, it's not going to be quiet if it's realistic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

well i have a personal experience with my 15" sx...i had it in a 4 cu ft box and it got loud but just sounded like arse..i had a box built and not only did the sub get louder it is now remarkably clean sounding..i know a good sq sub will be easier to make sound good but most subs with the right installation have the potential to sound really good.

You win the IASCA world finals with L7s by having them either turned off during the listening portion of the judging or turned way down and crossed extremely low. A good front stage can and should carry the system with the sub only filling in the bottom octave. Usually requires a lot more work than the average person is willing to do, but if high quality sound is the goal, that's the way to get there. For the average guy, the sub is going to get 1 1/2- 2 octaves of the audible spectrum and it becomes a little more important that it actually sounds good.

10" IDQv.3 are awesome. I have 2 running in 1.5 cubes ported each. I choose these as they are a similar design of the IDMAX with less RMS requirements. I have them powered with 1000 watts RMS. 500 each. They also require less mounting depth which fit best from my situation.

i had jbl gti mkll they were in a sq box 37 hz 2.25 cubic ft per sub,, 1300 watts did a 142.6 on term lab have the certifcate to prove, so i say them
