Best Quality CD-Rs, and those Pocket CD-Rs.

I just bought a pack of those pocket CD-Rs made by Memorex, the ones that are 3". I was told these should work in most head units, but I tried inserting a blank one into my head unit and it will **** one in but then spit it out. Won't actually load it. Am I basically screwed with these mini cd-r? I don't suppose it's because it is a blank cd, and I need to actually burn something on it, right? I tried inserting a blank regular sized CD-R and it loaded.

Anyone know of which manufactures head units actually play these?

Oh, regarding regular sized CD-Rs, which brands do you prefer/offer the best quality. I'm sure as far as the actual CD-R is concerned, there probably isn't much audible difference between brands, but any preferences? Memorex any good, what about Sony's?

Thanks.

just stick with memorex, they last the longest. ive been ripping cd's ever since the technologys been around, and memorex has been the best for me. also, head units dont have trays, and they are made to work with one kind of cd size.

That's what I kinda figured when I bought them, but I've had 2 people tell me that 3" cds will work fine in most head units where you insert the cd. Oh well, just wondering, these things could be very convinient if I could just get them to work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif A lot of times when I hear a new song I like, I find it difficult to fill one of those 80 minute CD-Rs, and even though they are cheap, I hate only using 25-50% of the disc. With the 3", I could easily fill those up and feel like I'm not letting anything go to waste. Just a pet peave of mine.

For quality cdrs, buy the 80 minute fujifilm cdrs(best buy, circuit city, etc). They are actually made by Taiyo Yuden, who is respected as one of the best manufacturers of cdrs(along with Mitsui). There is a little program you can download called cdr identifier that will tell you who actually made the cdr you are using(put a blank cdr in your cd drive and click the button). I have used different brands, and have found the fuji to be excellent. Many times, what makes 1 cdr better than another isn't always a matter of what cd player will play the cdr but how long the cdr lasts. Those fuji can be had at best buy very cheap after rebates sometimes.

yupp i agree, i use those at any speeds on any writer and they always come out perfect

those memorex are a gamble...i have to randomly choose one to see if it will work

it's the white ones with blue writing from walmart

I saw on a tech. show on TLC that EVERY CD is exactly the same technology and there is noting at all to gain by buying the more expensive ones. They said the companies that sell expensive cd's are the same companies losing money in the music industry and trying to recover it in cdr sales. According to them - trouble with reading or burning different ones is just coincidence.

oh now that changes the whole game

i really used some cheap cd's and i find they work jus as good

but, i heard they use different dyes in their cd's which extends the life/durability of the cd-r

I just purchased some Sony CD-Rs. While their car audio equipment doesn't seem to get good reviews, I trust just about everything else they make to be of the highest quality. Other brands that I thought looked reputable were TDK, Imation, FujiFilm, and Memorex. With anything, I always like to have options, and I like to have some options be better than others, but with CD-Rs I think most of them are safe buys. (ie. little to no differences between brands)

But in regards to Memorex, they offer several different types of CD-Rs. I think the white ones with blue writing are their "budget" line.

Oh, I also wonder if the different colors effect the quality at all. You know how some come in blue, silver, red, etc. I wouldn't think so.

Oh yeah, I also found a solution to using the pocket 8cm cd-rs. Memorex actually makes an adapter rim to use with them. Their cool color pocket cd-rs are very cool. They look like something out of a Bond film. They will come in handy when I only have 4 or 5 songs to burn.

Don't get the white memorex kind. If you want your cdrs to last dont get this brand. The white part rips off after a couple months. I had a 25 pack and 3 months later I might have had one that still worked.
