they are CEA 2006 rated at 1700 watts @ 1 ohm

Shoot - the Diamond monoblock I run will easily give 1700+ watts @ 1 Ohm...and you can find them for far less than $600.

Contact SSA. They will give you a much better price than 1000 for a sundown 3k. Or check dbr for a refurb.
