Best laptop under $850?

So my school allows us a certain budget for us to buy a new laptop, the only thing is it has to be under 850. I can prolly go up to 950, but only if it REALLY warrants it. The school pays for 850. So, what laptops have you guys gotten that you've had GREAT experiences with? I'm looking for a stable, well built laptop that can last at least the whole day between standby and being on. I don't want my laptop to be teathered to the wall. I'm willing to compromise on processor speed to make the battery last. Has to be new, because school needs a receipt.

Cliff notes: Whats the best laptop you've had? (Sorry, no macboys. Nothing personal) I got $850 to spend.

I got a Dell with a 9 cell battery with a core 2 and 3gb of ram for $500 a year back. Idk if there are any other deals like that right now.

I just got a dell refurb for $679. It's got the Core 2 Duo processor 2.4ghz 3mb cache, 4 gigs of ram, a 256mb ATi graphics card, HD display, fingerprint reader, webcam, 9-cell battery (6 hours of battery life ftw)... all the toys.
