Ported or sealed?
Very nice. The cc8. Works well in either type of box

I would say its more box dependant then sub, lots of good choices but ide see if you could manage a tline. Would need to go all the way across under your seats though.

Talk to CSCStang

Ok will do. Not looking for killer ear deafening bass. Just something nice and hard and clean on all music.
Cone area and power are what make loud systems, a 8 in a tline will just give you the best range available.

Correct if I'm wrong, but wouldn't volume of displacement have an effect on how loud it plays? In example, if you had an 8 hit a full 40mm of excursion wouldn't it be about equal to a 12 seeing around 18mm of excursion.

I ask because that's something I plan around. If I have an enclosure, like a transmission line, that has less load on a driver and allows for more mechanical excursion, I could conceivably match the about of a larger driver in a ported or sealed box that has more acoustical load on said driver. At least that was my thinking.

I couldn't answer that accurately, but I don't think anyone makes an 8 with 20mm one way excursion. Sundowns x8 only has 17 and its prob got the largest.

Yeah, it was more of a theoretical question. I do know that the SA8 and the X8 have a much higher mech limit, like 50 or 60mm total, and Sundown has a video of bottoming out the SA8. So indifferent or stupid, it can be done, at least for a minute or so before it pops. It was more of a can I match a larger drivers output with a smaller driver that has more excursion kind of question though. Guess I'll find out whenever I finish (someday....) redoing my sub stage.

I beat a pair of cheap pioneer 12s by 3db.
