Benefit of two subs instead of one?

I bet this one is gonna have some controversy.....

Why would i want to install a dual amp setup (one 800 watt max pioneer amp putting out 400 watts rmsx1/ 150 wattsx2 rms @ 4ohms) the sub i currently have is a pioneer premier 800 watt max/400 watt rms. i wouldn't mind adding another sub, but here is the question.....why would i add another sub(same kind) when i could just have the amp pushing all of its power to one, instead of having it split up into two. are there any real benefits to this? i would like to here your thoughts. thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If your sub can handle all the power from the amp then I say one sub is fine! Only advantage I can think of haveing an extra sub is one sub not being able to handle all the power, or for looks. But personally one sub seems fine to me!

heres some rules of thumb for you:

adding a subwoofer onto your amp: 6db gain

doubling the amount of power: 6db gain

so yes you will notice a big difference by adding another subwoofer even though you are underpowering them.

Isn't it supposedly a 3db gain? 6db's is huge //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

first off, you double your cone area...

second off, you take the stress off the first sub... what i'm trying to say is - you allow it to stay more linear (you arent going to be pressuring it to put out quite as much with a second one) and it maintins its composure better - basically, louder and sound better...

Sounds good guys, thanks. I guess after the alternator upgrade, it will be on to adding the second sub. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
