Beginner needs Guidance

Honestly...for $350? I would be all over craigslist and ebay...

I got 2 12" JL Audio 12W3v2 for $100 in a 3/4 MDF custom sealed box. They sound awesome for $100.... This would solve your issue of building a box.... craigslist has tons of stuff, and you can go listen to it before you buy it most of the time. Make sure the stuff works.

You want a sub, amp, and radio for that price if I read that right? I would say sub/amp yes. Radio.... $80 dollars VR brand at walmart new. Plays mp3's and all that stuff. Maybe a decent Alpine or Pioneer off craigslist or ebay for under $100.

All good advice so far, just adding a few more things. This is basically what I did at first was buy some good stuff on craigslist to get a decent system. Then as I got money I replaced it with better stuff.....so on and so on it goes.

So I read up on Square vs Rounds subs and I guess the basic difference is SQ (squares have more SPL but don't have as good SQ). I want something will a good bump but still want good quality. Are squares really that distorted or should I stick to a round?

Also I read up on Ported vs Sealed enclosures. Similar to round vs Square, I get the impression it mostly deals with SPL vs SQ (with ported boxes having better SPL but less SQ). Am I understanding this correctly?

yea that's what i figured. all i need is radio that can support mp3 so that shouldn't be a problem. i don't mind buying a used box but i'd rather invest most of my budget on a new sub. my friend said becuase you never know when a used sub is close to being blown.
