ok i'm a guy who used to compete on a very novice level in the mid 90's on the IASCA circuit. used all PPI, Orion, Phoenix Gold, Soundstream, yadda yadda yadda back in the day.
anyway, we all have our allegiances.
i found a pair of mint, almost never used Orion XTR series 1 12's, DVC. (red series). i had the same subs back in the day, so it holds a sentimental value to have them (obviously).
anyway, i don't care about having the loudest system, or the most efficient. i just want a setup that any old-car-audio guy will look at and think "****!" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
ok, with that out of the way.... i had purchased an Orion XTR2150 amp on ebay (was mint), but it never showed up. going through that paypal claim process now, kind of irritated.... but anyway i need another amp to power these guys.
the subwoofer specs for those that don't know:
2 x 12" Orion XTR DVC subs (dual 4 ohm VC's on each sub), RMS handling is 800 watts each. now given that i don't care to blow my windows out, i don't need to run 800 watts to them. in fact i prefer to keep it safe and stay lower. i was going to run the subs together, parallel the VCs on each sub to show 2 ohms, then series them together to show a single 4-ohm terminal on the box. (i was going to do this for the XTR2150 amp, to get 600 watts @ 4 ohms mono going to the 12s, or 300 per). that honestly is acceptable levels for me, but i would consider going higher if the price/amp was right.
anyway, what other amps are available out there that will push these? i'll accept old-school amp suggestions or even new amp suggestions (mainly looking for new amp suggestions i guess). i have NO idea what is out there now, and haven't kept up. i don't want crappy quality, obviously, but i don't need to pay McIntosh money either.
thanks so much for your help!
EDIT: also what is the consensus power output of an amp that would dictate one go to 4 gauge on the power/ground wires?
