Bass/Trunk Questions

Ok, so I have a question, is it normal for the bass to sound weaker when the trunk has been opened?, also when i open my trunk are the subs suppose to sound different in terms of bass. What exactly do i look for in terms of sub distortion, what does it sound like so i can check it and make sure im not burning anything.

yes it is normal when the trunk is open because ur releasing the cabin pressure. and subs wont sound as good firing into the air vrs cabin..

Your subs getting quieter with the trunk open is a good thing (getting louder with trunk open is a sign of some bad accoustic cancellation going on).

If you can't tell when the sound is distorted, I don't think we can help you. A simple test is if you turn the volume up past a cartain point and it doesn't really seem to get louder, back off a couple notches because that's the limit of your equipment. The point on your volume knob will vary depending on the source/music. Go easy until you learn the limits of your equipment and if you smell something funny definitely turn it down.

Awesome Thank you guys, as far as the distortion part, i didn't know if there was a common type of distortion that i can be listening for, as listening to it now in the car it sounds pretty solid and i def don't smell anything.

the distortion you can hear easier with the trunk open. I've heard alot of noobs setups and the subs are distorting when you hear the trunk opened. It should still sound clear and not muddy.
