Bass knob vs. H/U eq

Ok this morning i wanted to play with the bass knob i never had installed on my mb quart 1600... when i plug it up i notice that it kills all my h/u settings and everything goes flat. then i remove it and h/u eq is back.... the bass knob sounds like my h/u eq but only when turned all the way up... could this men the settings on my h/u is clipping like i know the knob will do.. the settings are flat or vocal, and i have loudness to mid and sla to +2....everyone says set everything flat but then it sounds like crap.. at 48-47 out of 62 i smell woofer and i know what that means....how should i set this up....

do not use the loud settings and turn the sla off as well. i have never seen an amp bass knob control the settings on a radio. you have a weird setup if plugging in a bass knob controls your radio functions.
