Bass Boost

What is the purpose of the bass boost knob on class d amps. My music gets just as loud rather I use it or not, mine goes from 0 to 18dbs, but I just leave it all the way down to avoid distortion, but I don't understand why its even on the amp. Could someone please clear this up for me.

Nah its up about 40% I dont need it all the way up my headunit has a pretty high preout signal 4.5 volts.

Honestly. It does serve a purpose for the average user. When you have a crappy head unit or a amp that has a terriable s/n ratio sometimes with the bass boost at 0 you can't get the full potential out of the amp. Now I agree it is distortion and not the best option... Better to get a xover or a line driver to boost signal rather than use bass boost. But it is a cheap fix but you do risk the vc's on your woofers lol
