bass boost

is the bass boost on the amp really necessary...the boost is 0-18db, i have an audiobahn A8002V amp powering a 12" soundstream T5...i have bass boost on my head unit as well...?

just eats amplifier power,i hardly ever use them.

I use mine. I boost 25hz 12 db, it gives me some more low end on my sealed box. Think of it a tuning aid. Try out different settings, youll find a sweet spot, even if that spot has the boost off.

I would avoid running bass boost on components, as they typically aren't designed to produce high levels of output in the subbass region, where most bass boost center frequencies are located.

I would never run them on comps.

If u do decide to use ur bass boost make sure u set ur gains after u set ur boost and use the test tone of the frequency it boosts

And with 12db of boost, that means you are asking the amplifier to increase it's power output by 16x at 25hz. Since that's very likely not possible, there is a very high probability you are clipping the heck out of your amp.

That bass boost knob isn't free power.

i think if it's a boost of 18 db you really only get a gain of 6 db usually, if i use bass boost i set it before i set the gain., other times it just makes your subs sound shitty.

correct, but if u plan on running your comps full range for a while and only turn up the bass boost until it becomes just noticable, i think you'll be golden. i did that when i had my little profile amp.

My system it sounds great with it set that way. Ive tryed different amps and they all love that setting. I am running a 500/1 to 2 10w1 sealed in a small box behind the seat of my crewcab truck. Sounds nice for what I can fit back there. I have the gain down quite a bit and with the 10w1 only needding 150w per sub I think I have enough headroom. I wish I could port the box. I appreciate the input as you seem very knowledgable.
