Bass Boost is BAD

got a question...in that vid, i have an oscilloscope similar to that, i want to use it, but what do i hook the meter leads up to...the speaker output of my amp?
you hook the scope up to the amps speaker outputs

Actually, I'm pretty sure Steve Meade uses a remote gain which is NOT the same thing as a remote bass boost.
Whats the diff? BB just increases signal voltage at a given freq (ie: same as adjusting gain at thatfreq). Actually, I thought some BB remotes actually are nothing more than a gain knob.... no?

The remote gain knobs I have used just attenuate the gain but do not raise it from the setting you have on the amp. So basically if you set your gain correctly and crank the gain knob to max, you will not exceed the gain setting on the amp. Full tilt on the remote gain will be at 100% gain setting on the amp.

So the knob only adjusts the gain down basically? Full tilt on the remote knob is merely what the signal would be without a knob at all?

Both are fine so long as you don't jack them, exceed what output you are looking for.

My friend only has a single ten, and because of money and space constraints, that's all he's getting. He listens to metal only, most bass stays around 40HZ give or take, drops on bass guitars and effects excluded. I barely nudged the boost up, to give the sub a bit more kick for bass drums. Doesn't distort or sound like it's ripping itself apart. Mission accomplished. He doesn't have an EQ or the most demanding desires for clarity, so he was happy with it.

But to use BB to solely get output, instead of doing a desired thing isn't the wisest of ideas.

me too, i have my remote gain, turn the gain all the way up, set ur gain on ur amp, and then that's that, done it like that all the time....and then u can turn it down if needed

So, ideally, you would set your gain on your amp to the highest *****SAFE***** setting with the knob all the way up, then turn the knob down for normal use and turn it up a bit when you want a little extra?

Immacomputer is completely right. Most higher end amps have whats called a "passive gain control knob" It is a "slave" to the gain setting on the amp. So like he said. MAX on the knob is only as high as the gain is set on the amp. I use one of these...same way Meade does. Turn it down for daily listening, and when I need the power for shows I turn the knob up, Knowing that Im only turning the amp up as high as the gain control on the amp is...safely.

Bass boost doesn't have to be a bad thing, though I suspect alot of people use it unwisely. It can make your sub distort. I use it, but only a little. I have mine set at 1/4. It just gives the bass a little extra boom WITHOUT the distortion. Any higher I could run into problems and possible clipping. Just be careful, thats all!

How do you figure 1/4 BB means no distortion added?

Bass boost is for P*ssies that can't learn how to actually run there system right so they put up that and think they sound good but other's like me and others other here would know for sure it sound's like sh*t haha.

i guess im a big ***** then.....and im still learning how to run my system right, got any pointers?
