Bass Boost is BAD

Even if you set your gains using an o-scope, with the BB on, to avoid clipping with it on, you are screwing yourself. BB only boosts certain freqs, while others remain at 'normal' levels. So you turn on BB, set your gains... those non boosted freqs are now artificially low.

I admit I play with BB *sometimes* as I know how to be careful with it, but generally Id say its best to just turn it off and leave it off.

I've got a BB/gain question, on my setup I'm using a pioneer gm-5200t amplifier, 380wrms@ 4 ohms. I have the BB on, gain set to the "normal" mark, which is about 3/4 of the way up. The headunits bass (pioneer) is on 0, loudness is on. The HU clips before the sub amp clips. With it set up like this, I can't hear any distortion at the volume I listen to music. If I turn the BB off, or if I lower the gain, it seriously sounds like a factory system, even though it's running a ported type R. Does my HU just have really low RCA output voltage, or am I doing something wrong? If anyone could help it would be great. thanks.

One more thing, I don't think its clipping because I ran a 150wrms sub off that amp in a ported box running it loud on bass mekanik and lil jon and it lasted months before the coil finally smoked. Thats over double the recommended rms and it was fine for a long time.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

remotes are a watse anyways, at elast in my opinion. i would only use one if i was at a comp and really wanted to crank it for a second. correct me if im wrong

Then how come Steve Meade from stevemeadedesigns.com uses bass boost??? If you watch his vids he always turns the knob up when he wants the bass.....

well, if you read the article posted above about Bass Boost, you will see where I was partially wrong, and it explains why he can do that..

Not all bass boosts are the same. Not all systems are set up the same way, or to do the same things. His system is setup to allow him to adjust useable output via bass boost. But remember, for the most part in those video's he's running the same songs, and doing the same thing over and over (burping the bass to impress people).
Just because you see Steve Meade reach for a bass boost knob does not necessarily mean its a good idea for your system/needs. Of course, its not necessarily bad either. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

got a question...in that vid, i have an oscilloscope similar to that, i want to use it, but what do i hook the meter leads up to...the speaker output of my amp?
