bass boost feature, use it or not?

Set it how the mfg recommends and you wont have to use caution. Also, dont be a dummy and keep increasing the boost when you hear distortion.

Any one know if the "bass boost" on the BX1500D is the little knob that goes from 0-18db on the amp??? Why do people call it a bass boost? And the amp does not say Bass Boost next to the knob.

If thats the bass boost than what is the remote bass control for???

I wouldnt use it, makes it WAY too easy to blow a sub for little gain...I would use the one on your HU...easier to control if you worry about blowing the sub.

My Fosgate "bass boost" came in handy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif But as JMAC said, don't be an idiot about it and turn it WAYY up, and your gain. You'll hear an ugly thing called distortion //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

The Hifonics amp is different that my JL boost. The remote with the knob does not increase the signal it just gives you the option to turn the signal lower. The dial on the amp is different and it works like another gain....kind of weird. When I have the remote boost to a full 18 db's the unplug it there is no change in volume like there was with my JL 500/1.

I had a Hifonics 1000d, and the remote does the same thing as the knob on the amp, controls boost from 0 - 18 dB's, with the remote taking priority over the knob on the amp. So if you have the knob set to 18, but the remote set to 0, the bass boost would be 0.

OK, I was not sure if that is how it worked or not. The spec sheet was not very clear, I thougt that the dial on the amp was a 0-18db boost @30-60hz and the remote knob was an overall signal control or attenuator. But you are saying that the knob and the dial are one and the same. I do know that with the remote knob that it does not boost anything above the already set gain control. In other words if I have the gain all the way up and then plug in the remote it does not raise the signal any more, it just gives you the option of lowering it 18db's.

Some people are so ignorant with this. They warn you not to use it when they know not how it works.

Using the remote bass link on the Directed or Viper amps, you are instructed to set your gains, raise the bass boost on the amp to half way (or the right under the level where distortion comes into play), then plug in the remote.

When you have the remote @ full min, it is just like having your amp set at 0 gain and half bass boost, when you turn the remote knob half way, it is like having your gains half way (half of what you have already set it at) with half bass boost,

When you have the knob all the way up, it is like having your gains where you set them at and the bass boost half way up. If you were to unplug your remote, this is how it would be the whole time, with the remote in, you can control your gain from a distance. But even with the remote turned all the way up, the input sensitivity will never surpass that which it is set at on the amp.

Like I said earlier, if you set them correctly, you will have nothing to worry about, and also, if you do set it correctly and notice distortion or mechanical distress, then back off of it a little bit.
