bass boost feature, use it or not?

Bass boost is for people who know nothing about car audio, and run full 20hz - 20khz from their subs. It gives it that pound you expect from subwoofers, without having to do things like getting halfway decent enclosures or a powerful amp or a crossover.. It usually is a foolish thing to use.

That said, sealed enclosures can benefit from it the most, if you wanna crank an extra 6 db at 45 hz in a sealed enclosure, then go for it, just set them right. Hell, it's not's my setup.

Again, I prove I fit in with 1/32 people on this forum.

my soundstream has a bass boost "switch" either on or off. off it doesn't get that loud. so i have it turned on. and set the gain with it on with an oscope. is this ok? does anyone know what freq. the switch boosts at?

It should say in the amp manual, I I dont think there is a freq at which every amp is set.

Usually it will be at either 45hz, or 60hz. Seeing as it's a Soundstream, and almost undoubtedly a good quality amp, it will be at 45hz. 60 is for Pyle or Pyramid, since it's louder. It also sounds like it might only be a 4-6db gain, if it's not easy to notice.

Blah, I'll shut up before I make myself look like more of an idiot. Look for a manual for the amp online.

i have 18dB gain at 45 hz, my enclosure peaks at 44hz( according to Win ISD).

Well, you figure it out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Even if i was clipping( im not), the brahmas are so loud i cant hear it

I'm still trying to figure out how the bass knob on the Hifonics amps work... Its really weird...

When the bass knob is set to the lowest, there is really barely any bass... but then put the bass knob to 1/4 the way up... and BOOM... it sounds about right... then put it half way up... and a whole new level of boom appears... and past the half way mark, there is barely any increase...

I usually leave it at 1/4 the way up... because that seems like a neutral point, where the lowest settings are there for those "no bass times"... and higher than 1/4 is for showing off or something...

when the bass knob is unplugged, the gain will be as if the bass knob plugged in was turned all the way up..

btw my bass knob install > all of your guys' bass knob installs.

Ok but I still don't exactly understand, would that mean that the knob goes from -18db-0db... or that the default setting on the amp without the remote is +18?

You should set your gain/bass boost with the knob all the way up (or unplugged, its the same thing), then use the knob to turn your amp DOWN when you need to. The knob on the HiFonics is not a bass boost, it works like a remote gain. It doesn't affect certain freq's more than others, it just attenuates the whole thing

Thats what I thought... thanks, I never really felt much peakiness... and when the knob was all the way down... every frequency was super weak..
