Basket removal

Is it possible to remove this basket and put a new one on. I know it's a dumb question and all... As well as it's most likely a no but just wondering if anyone knows or cOuld tell me yes:)

Also they don't seem to be screws it seems like a stamped metal but I'm not sure.

Looks like flat head screws to me.. Depending on your sub, it may not be worth it to get a new basket. For most good quality motors, it is possible to change the basket. You just need to be sure you get the right bolt pattern.

Is it really worth you to put a new basket on it and then recone it? I am not being derogatory at all. Is the basket damaged to the point it warrants a new one? You may just be able to get a recone without putting a new basket on it.

The basket can definitely be removed. Just make sure you protect the coil gap with something significant, because any metal that gets in there will be hell to remove. A pneumatic chisel or a grinder will work just fine. Then after it comes off and you have picked your new basket, mark, drill, and tap your new holes (I would recommend taking it to a shop with a drill press to make sure you're perpendicular to the mounting surface).

Could you give the CA.com community some insight on your plans? We are all suckers for pics and stuff!

Well I can see why you want to keep them. I am positive Dean could get you a recone kit. @SPLaudio ; I believe he would be your best bet, and a great way to learn from a pro!

I have always loved the older fosgate subs, just they were part of growing up, and I even bought some older motors and basket to be reconed for the same reason. Just remember there are subs out there that could be a lot less trouble, but a lot less fun, lol.
