Barely hear anything from subwoofers *beginner*

Don't know if it's because they're not in a box yet

but the bass is very faint when testing them is it always this way without a box?

They are wired in parallel down to 1 ohm load. All wiring checks out okay.

What could be my problem (If it's due to not having a box)?

Info about my system:

- 96 Cadillac Eldorado

- JVC KW-AV61BT Deck

- 4 Gauge power & ground

- Stock Bose 4" front and 6x9 rear

- 2 Pioneer 12" TS-W309D4

- Pioneer Amp GM-D8601

Also sometimes I'll turn on the car and no sound will come from anything but the subwoofers, but a simple restart of the HU fixes this. Odd, lol. Probably unrelated, just a thing to mention.

Hope to resolve this asap, hoping it's simple lol.

It is due to not having them in a box. The front and rear waves of a speaker need to be isolated from one another in order to produce low frequencies.
Perfect. Figured so. Thanks a bunch man. Gave me peace of mind, lol.

I'll keep this open for discussion after I get them in a box incase they are still like this.
