Balancing subwoofer levels for both rear and front passengers

etcetc

I installed an aftermarket subwoofer in my 2016 Civic and when it's at a comfortable level for me as the driver, it's too overwhelming for backseat passengers. When it's good for the backseat, it's too quiet for me. Was wondering if there was some placement trick I could do in the trunk to balance it out a bit more throughout the car. The sub is currently placed at the back of the trunk (so closest to the rear passenger seats), facing towards the rear of the car.

A little bit disappointed that this is an issue - I would've honestly just opted to get a car with a lower quality stock subwoofer if it meant balancing the audio throughout the car. It's nice to enjoy the music driving alone but I drive with passengers fairly often enough that it's a problem. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if there are any clever fixes.

Appreciate any comments or ideas. I know I'm fighting against physics here as naturally the rear seat passengers are closer to the subwoofer.
