Balance between HU ouput levels and amplifier gains

I was wondering how people set up their HUs as far as front and rear output levels go. Is it better to crank your front and rear to +10 and adjust your gains on the amp accordingly, or leave them at 0. I imagine it would be better to amplify a stronger signal less, then a weaker signal more.

You leave them at zero. All bass, trebble, sub out and eq also at zero. Set your main volume to 75%. This is usually max volume before distortion begins. So this is your maximum clean output. Play refrence test tone and set amp gains to match the desired output you have calculated.

At lower listening volumes you can adjust front, rear, bass, sub, etc to suit your tastes, but if you exceed the HU max volume it will distrort.
