well 1st off i had to pull my girl motor and ***** to swap ***** and fix a valve cover leak and clean the oil off the motor from the leak

ok well got the ***** swaped and motor cleaned and back in

so now i go to pull the valve cover and since its front wheel drive the back cover is under all kinds of **** and when i get to the last bolt its just hand tight .ok i see it maybe came lose

now i go to pull the front same a few were not tight at all and on top of that they only changed one gasket i can see why the front wont come off the cover it turned to plastic and one with the cover

then i pull the spark plugs 1st 2 not even hand tight and on the front 1 was lose out of the 3 and the lose ones are dark yellow from the carbon and exhaust blowing by its also under the intake that was over the cover 2 black spots right where the spark plugs are

and then the o2 sensors where spliced with but connecters the cheapo blue ones just hanging there

this all on a 00 eclipse ..there is just some people who need to stay away from tools

This thread has me confused on several levels.
Thank you. Grammar is NOT a lost art. Neither is the ability to effectively communicate. Who has the signature that talks about people judging your intelligence by the way you communicate?

But alas, I got the gist of what you said. I think, maybe.

Fix it right, whatever is wrong with it. Cheaping out is the sucker's way. And it's only going to cost you headache and frustration in the future.

Unless you dump her now.

And I'll do it since no one else has - pix of said girlfriend??? LOL

Even getting past the grammar, why pull the engine to swap the ******? And if you DO pull the engine for ****** work, why in the world would you put the engine back in before fixing things like a valve cover leak?

But yes, the grammar had me scratching my head a few times as well.

I won't knock him on this one. Depends on the car really, it might be less frustration to pull the whole unit and deal with the ***** on the hoist where it is easily accessible and then get to cleaning all the other crap that is wrong with it. It's not like you S-10 or my Bronco - pulling the ***** alone in them would be normal.

TJ, it's a 10 year old car. It's a 10 year old Mitsu, at that. That shite probably worked itself loose over the last 200K miles she or the previous owner has beaten it. LOL But seriously, cars aren't made (ie - put together) the way they used to be, AND they are designed for obsolescence. No manufacturer wants you driving around in their 10 year old car.

Yeah I was thinking about it after I typed it, some transverse engine bays.... *shudder*. But that still doesn't explain why he said that he put the motor back in, then started fixing stuff like valve cover leaks and loose spark plugs. Just seems like common sense would kick and tell you to work on the engine while its out of the car.

Yes but in those ten years none of the spark plugs were changed or the valvecover gasket replaced? ...I'm assuming its the 4 cylinder model so replacing the valve cover and spark plugs are very easy

I'd say it is fairly possible that they were not. The new plugs advertise a 10 year span, and even the manufacturers are going that route. Look at the current oil change intervals on the new cars. 8,000 for an oil change is not unheard of in the manufacturer specs. Shoot, my '94 Honda VFR (motorcycle) was recommended for 8K miles back in '94!! I use synthetic and change at 3-4K miles. I went to 8K once, and begged her forgiveness and promised I'd NEVER do that again. Even with synthetic, the oil looked like arse. (I do 10K or more a year on the bikes.)

So the manufacturers are actually pushing people to these extended maintenance schedules (which actually helps their desire to wear out the car faster). People don't want to change plugs every few years when they're running an $8-10 plug (times 4, 6, or even 8). My Bronco runs GREAT on standard copper core ($2) plugs, so replacing every few years is a no brainer and cheap! LOL

As for why did he reinstall the engine and THEN do the rest of the work? Ppphhhtt, who knows?? Maybe a spout of temporary insanity? :) I like having things right there in my face to work on them. Of course, my fenders come to my arm pits, so anything in the engine bay is a bother. The underside though - that is GREAT. I sit upright to do work under there. hehehehe

well 4 one the ***** was used from a wrecking yard and only had a 90day on it so if i did all the other work then i wouldnt have been able to see if the ***** was even any good . better to check why the motor runs ..and also in a front wheel drive car its easyer to pull the motor and ***** as one piece there is no room in the engine bay to do so ...so you pull it in one piece

plus i said that we wanted to clean the motor and replace the stuff that is impossable with the motor in and fixing a valve cover leak is just was easy in and out of the car but i allreaddy said why i had to put it back together

also its a v6 so the park plugs are not the easy to replace

and for grammer well if you online for grammer your on the wrong fourm ... i didnt sign up for grammer classes to enjoy car audio

I would imagine, but I am not 100% sure, that you could have also dropped the cradle to get the ***** out. On some cars, however, this is not any easier than pulling the motor.

I am confused on whether or not you did the work. It sounds like you did the work and then your bashing it? I dont get it.
