BAHHHH Red ring of death on my xbox

i cant tell if mine is 3lights or 4

iv had a cable come out a lil and it blinked red then powered up fine after i repluged it back in... tried it this time and didnt work

I feel like if the issue is shitty cooling and the xbox finally gives out and dies on a hardware level the issue is probably that the CPU is damaged and needs to be replaced?

I guess that doesn't explain the fact that OVERHEATING the whole system somehow allows it to work again..........I wonder if that's because there is a sensor that measures the temp of the CPU vs. the ambient temp?

It won't get the 3 lights if it's a power issue. The 3 lights=hardware failure.
Yes, the towel trick does work, temporarily- it worked for me for about a day.

Xbox will warranty the RROD for 3 years from purchase...
I wasnt referring to the exact lights that light up but just that it lights up red due to power issues.

Ive also heard they have warrantied games to some people when they were scratched due to the dvd-rom

My xbox was bought as a arcade model & it had the Falcon board in it, and then I just added the 120g hard drive and stuff to it, plus had it modded so I could play "my" backup copies...I also upgraded my PC with the correct DVD writers and all I needed to make my copy's myself..

Ive read of problems with the power supplies failing and sending too much power to the unit causing it to fail.....I try to leave mine unplugged if possible just in case

If it's 4 lights, I believe that means the a/v connection is either unplugged or bunk.

You don't need the receipt, go to xbox.com/support, sign in with your windows live ID (you used this for XBL), and you can set up a warranty claim through there.

all the new xboxes have the falcon drive.....i had the first wave of them from the release day and it gave me the rrod, i sent it in and they gave me a new one and said the new ones dont have the problem anymore.

is there a way to fix or rebuild without sending it off to xbox cause i dont think i still have th reciept
you dont need the receipt. xbox knows when and where it was bought when the SN was scanned when you purchased it. go to the website and register it. itll tell you if its still under warranty. it will be but it will at least tell you how much longer.

its really easy, call them, theyll send you a box and all packing materials all postage paid for. better hope it breaks twice though. first time they fixed mine it was just a refurbed old one.

2nd time they replaced all internals and it has the new board in it that everyone is talking about. the new one is 100times quieter and runs faster overall.
