Bad to trim down 8 gauge wire to fit sub/amp terminal?

I have some spare 8 gauge wire laying around, so would it be horrible to trim that down to fit into my sub and amp terminals? If I can avoid having to go out and get new wire that would be optimal, but if there's downsides to having to trim wire to fit then I don't want to do that. I don't imagine I'd have to trim it down too much though. Sub is a Sundown SA-12 and the amp is a SAZ-1000d.

 
i usually like to solder the trimmed end into the full size conductor. it keeps everything in place, and works as a make-shift post terminal.
