Bad sound

I have a pair of CDT components hooked up to an MB Quart 2 ch amp. being run with an Ecipse 8454 HU. I installed it and has sounded good until a day ago. I drove to work and it sounded normal. When I got in my car to go home, both speakers sounded terrible. Hardly any high frequencies coming through at all. very muddy and muted sounding. Both speakers did teh same thing at once and now sound terrible and have almost no volume. What should I check?

I thought it may be a shorted patch cable but I tried another one and it did nothing to help. Looking for advice on what and how to check. Thanks

Main things to check are if the speakers are blown. Hook up a DMM and read the Ohm lvl on the voice coils. Insure the speaker wires are connected securely...

Check the RCAs and amp, even the preouts on the HU. Also check to see if the speakers are OK. Doesnt sound like it was the speakers since they both did it.

If it was the speakers, it would be very coincidental thatthey both went at the same time. Plus, the gain was set low and I never blasted them but I will check.

I don;t have much experience with a DMM but what readnigs should I be getting? 4 ohms at speakers? What should I check for and expect to get on teh RCA's, amp and HU pre-outs?

Sounds like an amp gone bad or you have a short somewhere.
