BAD!! idk whats going on amp goes into protect, very hot, sub doesn't move

hey guys, idk much about car audio, but my m/a 800 amp keeps going into protect and is getting very hot, its powering an AS12, i actually almost burned my hand on the amp, what is going on ??? settings? idk crap about this stuff any help appreciated thanks guys ! btw i just hooked it up yesterday

Sounds like the sub(s) may be wired to too low of an impedance for the amplifier.

its a 2 ohm amp running to a 2 ohm sub w/dvc

i found a wiring diagram online and wired it this way:

wire from one - to the other - terminal to the amp, then one + to the other + terminal then to the amp

my gain is 1/2 way up, and i wasn't even running the sub hard

you can wire the sub to either a 1 Ohm, or 4Ohm load

but this sub is a 2 ohm sub? and the amp is stable at 2 ohms, sorry man i dont get it. ?

its DUAL 2 ohm... so therefore 2 2ohm voice coils. Just wire it to 4 ohms (in series) and run it at half power.

yes but you said it has dual voice coils right?, if so then you can only wire it to either 1 or 4 ohm

dang i wish i would have known this when i bought this stuff, b/c my amp only runs at 400 W @ 4 ohms, now i'm going to have to buy a 4 ohm dvc AS12 to wire it to 2 ohms @ 800 wats to get the full power of my amp right ?

well to get the full power of my amp @ 2 ohms i need a 4 ohm sub to be able to wire that sub to 2 ohms. right now i have a 2 ohm sub which can only be wired to 1 ohm and 4 ohms, my amp is not stable at 1, and only puts out 400 rms @ 4 ohms, but 800 rms @ 2 ohms, so if i get the 4 ohm version of my sub i will be able to wire it to 2 ohms and get the full 800 rms from my sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
