hello, my first post here... go easy on me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/angel.gif.fa7795fff6653f4381ba158c55a48b74.gif

i am installing a new deck, and wondering if the backstrap is a good idea. I have heard mixed reviews, some saying its good so thieves cant steal it, and others say they wont steal it, but they will tear up your dash trying to get to it..

please share your opinions on your backstrap experience!

thx

alarms arent all that expensive, and if you think about it,,, if you just go ahead and buy a nice alarm, they last forever,,,,, if someone is gonna break in your car, and see that you have shit holding down your deck,, they will probably **** up the other shit,, stabbing the seats, spraypainting the out side of the car,, pissing in the gas tank etc...

back in the day when a feather would hit your cd player and it would stop working for 3 minutes when the lazer gets lost, yes they were a good idea, but now with good quality install kits, you dont need them, plus for serviceability they get annoying, and in most cases you can iso mount decks now, which are the very best way to prevent anti theft, but like others said if they want your deck they will get it or take a shit on your dash when they cant

If your worried about thieves then I'd go ahead and buy an alarm. They will help protect everything in your car, but remember, nothing is theif proof, even the best alarms can be bypassed, but they are definitely a deterent to most theives.

The back strap is not designed to stop thieves as much as it is used to support the weight of the HU. It provides stability and if you look at it, you have this heavy HU being supported by some plastic. I do not hook it up, but what I do is this. I have been lucky that most of my cars have had a metal brace under the HU. I bend the strap and make a L so it supports the back of the HU but is not attached. If anyone has hooked one up they can tell you how big of a pain in the a$$ it is to get it right.

Wow, great advice guys.. I guess my next step is investing in an alarm. I spent like 3 hours the other night taking my dash apart just to get behind the hu for the strap. Its still apart, and I am finishing the install today. Since its open already, I might go ahead and put the strap in. With an alarm and a strap, I should have the time to find the theif before he makes away with my stuff (and smash him before he smashes up my truck)...

Hooter, can you explain what an ISO install is?

thx
