Unless the center console enclosure contains subwoofers, it will only serve to hurt audio performance, not improve it. Anything from midbass on up is localizable, and mounting speakers to play those freqs in the center of the passenger compartment will fuq up your sound stage considerably.
ya i wish that would work, because it'd be ideal for ease of install, but i knew it would be terrible. There is plenty of room for kicks on the passenger side but the e-brake pedal is sort of in the way on the driver. However since the brake cable isn't even connected to the e-brake pedal, i'd just remove the purposeless pedal and have plenty of room on the driver for a good sized kick too.
Plus, unfortunately audio is really back burner and body work is probably out of the question. The thing is an iconic beast; a real price of americana. Its exterior pretty much looked the same from 1963 until they quit in 91'. Mine is the last generation, really upscale. They really were the escalades of the 80's. leather, keylesss entry, power window/seat/mirror. rear power window, defrost and wiper blade. All pretty standard on even econoboxes now, but in 89' that was some high tech shizzle.
Plus it only gets about 8mpg, so its not really economical for a commuter. However, it is UNBEATABLE in the snow. After i bought it for $500 it ran like brand new all winter and into the next spring. Then the carb went to hell.
So while i know it cant be my only ride, its a great winter beast to drive in the snow. If it takes a few hundred a year (after this much larger investment) it will be well worth it.
I just hope i dont blow a ****** or something.
