Back of truck cab install idea, need input

Well I am going to have my sound dampening arrive tommorow(after 1 month of waiting. BTW, fatmat on ebay has a 1 month delay right now, understocked). I am planning to have the amprack installed by professionals because I will likely only get one chance to get this right, and if something goes wrong i'd rather have someone to point the finger at, lol. But anyways...

To give an idea of what I am talking about having done: My truck is a 2004 Silverado extended cab. I have modified the rear seat to fold forward so I can mount my amprack/amps behind the rear seat(well out of the way and out of sight from thieves). I want to mount the amp rack to the back wall of the cab with liquid nail. The back of the cab is not flat though, it has slots kind of like a truck bed does, except wider. I am going to have sound dampening laid down in the subdued ones, and then use liquid nail to adhere the finished, and carpeted MDF amprack to the cab wall. This sounds like a solid idea, but I would still like some input to it.. Any experiences of similar amp rack installs, pictures, or just general ideas or thoughts on the design. Maybe im forgetting something?

Thanks!

I'm trying to draw a picture in my head, but it isn't working. Only thing I can really say at 3am is that I've never had ANY luck with liquid nails adhearing to anything in a car, before or after something has been modified. Hopefully your luck is better than mine?

Ill have to get some pics together to better illustrate this after school. I have talked with someone who has done an install with liquid nail and it worked ok.

Alright, heres a picture of the back of te cab, with rear seat folded down. I want to mount the amps to this back wall where the grey insulation currently is, but will be carpeting the back wall after laying the sound dampening down on it.

Looks like a do-able project if you just mount some thin amps flat. Is that seat backing on a hinge? or did you just take it off and lay it on the cushion?

Its on a hinge. The seat, from the factory, only folds the bottom half up, to allow more back seat storage area(and no passengers), but I took the seat out and cut the brackets shorter so I can fold the upper half down to allow access to the amps(when I mount them anyways, lol) and to show them off if I ever want to.

Seems like a good idea. I just still have my doubts about liquid nails though. If it doesn't work out, you can always peel it off I guess.

That's how I mounted mine. I don't think you should pay a shop to do this.

What I did was cut .75" MDF into strips, sa about 7"x 1.5", and liquid nailed that to the valleys you are talking about on the back wall. Don't liquid nail the MDF to sound deadened area, won't hold (at least for me 1 strip didn't). Then I mounted my amp rack onto the MDF strips and mounted the amps.

** Note, I had an accident and the amp rack came down. I replaced one of the amps a couple months later and said phuck it and put 2 sheet metal screws through the amp rack into the cab. Thing ain't moving. Holds a fair amount of weight, crossovers(need to go active) and a DLS A3 and A6. You can do it! Good luck.

Oh yeah, mine is kinda ghetto! I am gonna take out the jute matting and put matching carpet on the wall.

Well, like I said in first post, im having it done at a shop so I can point the finger, lol. They said it should work fine, that they use it, so unless they have a better idea(or someone on the forum here has a better idea) then thats what i'll be going with.

I found someone else on another forum that has a finished install like im talking about to give an idea..

The pics can be found in their album here:

Theres some good pics there.

I basicaly am doing the same thing as they did, except ill be using those screw-in wire holders after I get everything else finished, just as a finishing touch, and to clean it up a bit.. I also plan on running the wires from the bottom if I can, I prefer it that way. The less visable wiring the better.

Naw, what I plan on doing is installing the sound dampener in all areas except the boards contact/adhering points., I figure the board will dampen plenty of noise lol, but still, im using FatMat, so im going to double layer it just to be certain since ive heard mixed reviews of the stuff. I just hope the carpet will be able to adhere to the foil side of it using standard carpet spray glue =X
