Aurasound 8" Woofers NS8-385-4A, I'm gettings some... $19.50 each!

I was wondering if anyone has used these speakers?

Looks like they have good specs:

* 38.55mm voice coil with copper wire on kapton former

For ~$20 each, I figure its worth the gamble. They supposedly high excursion but it doesn't show the xmax specs.

I know someone who is running the NS6 and he has a MECA SQ trophy from the last time he competed in Chicago.

I'd love to try the NS8 in my Mustang, but I think it is a tad bit too deep for my factory door pods.

Cool, I am very much into SQ myself! I don't compete yet, but want to this summer.

I will be installing 2 in the doors of my '65 VW Bus and 2 in the doors or kick panels of my '65 Beetle, depending on how much of a spacer I have to use (mounting depth).

I don't have any really good pics of the doors right now, but this gives you an idea. I'll be putting it in the largest pocket 4" away from the floor. I plan on crossing it over around 50hz with HPF set to around 3khz to a set of 1" silk dome tweeters (haven't decided yet).

You plan on using those up to 3khz? Good luck. There was a midrange shootout done using 4" woofers and the Aura got the worst rating of all of them...hopefully these are better but I highly doubt you'll get good results if you expect them to play that high. The site even says it's usable frequency range is up to 1.5khz, so expect it to be even lower than that...good luck man, you'll need it.

Now I see that in the PDF about 1.5Khz... If its too muddy or scratchy above those freq's I might have to suppliment them with some 3-4" mid-ranges to go with the tweets and probably a passive crossover from the mids - tweets. The main thing I'm after is very strong mid-bass up to 250hz or so. I find that most cars have a definite lack of mid-bass punch and that's what I'm hoping to get back with these. 2-ways with 8s starts to get difficult... you generally need tweeters that will play down pretty low and have good power handling.

I've been able to cross my Tang Band W4-1757SB over as low as 315 Hz, but recently moved it into the 500 Hz range so I could catch more of that lower end thump from the snare drum. It just didn't hit with enough authority when I had my MLI-65s playing from 80 to 315 Hz, so I brought them and the full range driver up.

It had a better off-axis frequency response and I wanted to utilize the stock speaker locations versus building dash pods.

Yes, that is my review and no I don't use tweeters. If I had to do it all over again, I would consider something like the Fountek FR89EX, or other comparable full-range driver on-axis.

nice! Could make a cool cheapo sub setup of eight of these 8s for $136 + one of the Boston Acoustic Factory refurb GT-24 amps on sale at BA's outlet site for $107 that'll do 900watts rms into 2ohms bridged and youve got some cheap, old fashoned, retarded fun for $243
