AudioControl DQXS

for $400 for the DQSX wich is JUST a crossover, you are better off spending another $200 on a alpine RUX-C701 and PXA-H701.

i got mine for 550 used for everything. and a DQSX is like 400+change new. PM TOXIC TUAN and ask him what he could charge you for a h701 combo ( i dont know if he still sells alpine anymore though)

The DQXS is a EQ and Crossover, not just a crossover.

I used the H701 and don't like it. You get lots of floor noise with a non alpine H/U and I tried many things to remove it, all attempts were unsuccessful. Plus I don't want the Alpine controler in my dash to control the volume. As I'm looking into getting either a McIntosh or Denon to replace my DRZ9255.

I've been told with any analog input into the H701 you get noise.. I'd have to imagine you'd also get signal degradation as well as you're going through two more A/D to D/A conversions.

I was considering this when thinking about a 3SIXTY.2.

Why replace your DRZ9255?? Is it not the pinnacle of SQ?

I wonder if the optical outputs from these head units to external processors is universal..

ie. Could you run optical/digital from a 9255 to an H701 for example to avoid the noise issues with analog/digital/analog?

Most digitals outs a brand/style specific. Plus why would you want to bypass the DAC's in a H/U like the 9255, Mac or Denon. That is one of the main things that makes them such great SQ H/U's and one of the reasons they cost so much.

I'm looking at temporarily replacing the 9255 because it stopped playing CDs, so I need to have it sent in for service and I want to try another SQ H/U while the 9255 is out. It also gives me the option to have another great H/U. The only down fall is I need an EQ because none of the other H/U's that I'm looking at have them built in.

Oh I totally agree.. dangling a processor on the end of a 9255 would just be silly.. I was just wondering about the brand specific proprietary issue.

The alpine cda-9887 is supposed to be their shining light audio head unit.. not out yet.. due this summer sometime.. though not on the scale of the 9255, it's a good consolation/temporary.

Also even more budget friendly are the premier deh-p880prs, the clarion dxz775usb.. Not in the same ballpark but the same functionality.. Lots of fans of the pioneer unit here.

There's always a pioneer p9+deq9 too.

I looked at going back to a more budget friendly H/U but don't like the look of any and the 9255 has spoiled me with its SQ.

I had pioneers in the past and even the 880prs I put in a friends car had issues with the preouts, which tends to be a problem with Pioneers. Other than that they are some of the better H/U's out .

It's about time for a change anyway. If I end up with a Mac or Denon I'll probably just switch it out with my 9255 every 6 months or so, just to have a change. But doing that I'll need to have a separate EQ.

And I just saw a clarion HD-X2 but it was in dadgum hong kong.. and I did also see a denon unit on ebay but his auction ended without bid.

To answer your question the DQXS is a great unit. I regret selling mine and hope to have another soon. The only thing of value to me that it doesnt is have T/A like the alpine unit. But I also dont want to have an alpine controller in my dash. The controler for the DQXS is great and could be stashed in the glove box or center console if you want to change settings.

the dqxs is an absolutely awesome piece. more tuneability than you'll ever need, and more than enough to get you into trouble //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i personally prefer it over the alpine 701 simply because the 701 is geared more towards 5.1, and if you are just running a wicked front stage and a sub like i am, then 70% of the options are useless. it has a gnarly time alignment and crossover setup, and a very nice EQ, but the EQ and crossovers in the dqxs are even better. you just lose the time alignment function. it's 6 in one hand, half dozen in the other really, i just like to know that i'm using my equipment for what its designed for, and i feel that if i'm not running 5.1 then i wouldn't be using the h701 for what it was really meant for. and i've heard of the noise floor issues as well, never had a problem with any audiocontrol piece. awesome gear, and they stand behind it.

their manuals are good reading too... informative, and pretty humorous if you're a dork like me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
